A post with today's date on an update of Dear Raed where Salem Pax reveals an incident that brings shame on America and this country's troops:
"G. my friend got beaten up by US Army last night, he was handcuffed and had a bag put on his head. he was kicked several times and was made to lie on his face for a while. All he wanted to do was to take pictures and report on an attack, he works for the New York Times as a translator and fixer. He got more kicks for speaking english.
his sin: he looks Iraqi and has a beard.
story will be told, I need to get him drunk enough to get the whole thing out of him he doesn't want to talk."
An image suddenly flashed in my head of jackbooted Nazi soldiers giving a Nazi victim similar treatment. I'm relieved that "G" didn't get worse (Hope not, anyway) and that he survived the attack. I'd sure hate to be in his position. I wonder how many troops that had nothing to do with this and other war crimes committed by Americans will pay the price for what these punks are doing over there. It seems to me, the people in charge of the troops need to get off their butts and do something to put an end to this before a lot more people on both sides end up dead.
